IELTS Band 6–9 strategies
The IELTS Reading section has 3 passages and 40 questions in 60 minutes. Speed and strategy are key.
Top Strategies
- Skim the passage first (2 min) — don't read every word
- Read the questions BEFORE the passage
- Use keywords from questions to find answers fast
- Don't spend more than 20 min per passage
- True/False/Not Given: "Not Given" means the text doesn't mention it at all

Task 1 & Task 2 mastery
IELTS Writing has 2 tasks. Task 1 (20 min, 150 words): describe a chart/graph. Task 2 (40 min, 250 words): essay.
Task 2 Essay Structure (Band 7+)
- Introduction: paraphrase the question + your opinion (2–3 sentences)
- Body paragraph 1: main point + example + explanation
- Body paragraph 2: second point + example + explanation
- Conclusion: summarize your view (2 sentences)
- Use linking words: However, Furthermore, In contrast, As a result

You hear each recording ONCE. The IELTS Listening test has 4 sections, getting harder as you go.
Listening Strategies
- Read questions before the audio starts
- Underline keywords in the questions
- Answers come in order — don't fall behind
- Watch for synonyms — the audio uses different words than the question
- For spelling questions: they always spell it out slowly

IELTS Speaking is a 11–14 minute face-to-face interview. 3 parts: introduction, long turn (2 min speech), discussion.
Speaking Tips for Band 7+
- Don't memorize answers — examiners can tell
- Use a range of vocabulary — avoid repeating the same words
- It's OK to pause briefly to think — say "That's an interesting question..."
- Give reasons and examples for every answer
- Speak at a natural pace — not too fast, not too slow
