📖 Reading

IELTS Band 6–9 strategies

The IELTS Reading section has 3 passages and 40 questions in 60 minutes. Speed and strategy are key.

Top Strategies

  • Skim the passage first (2 min) — don't read every word
  • Read the questions BEFORE the passage
  • Use keywords from questions to find answers fast
  • Don't spend more than 20 min per passage
  • True/False/Not Given: "Not Given" means the text doesn't mention it at all

تدرّب

  1. The passage says climate change affects only coastal areas. Is this True, False, or Not Given?

    • True
    • False
    • Not Given

"False" — the passage mentions effects on all regions, not just coastal areas.

  2. Which reading strategy saves the most time?

    • Reading every word carefully
    • Skimming first, then finding answers
    • Starting with the last paragraph
    • Ignoring the questions

Skimming gives you a map of the text so you find answers faster.

✍️ Writing

🎧 Listening

40 questions, 30 minutes

You hear each recording ONCE. The IELTS Listening test has 4 sections, getting harder as you go.

Listening Strategies

  • Read questions before the audio starts
  • Underline keywords in the questions
  • Answers come in order — don't fall behind
  • Watch for synonyms — the audio uses different words than the question
  • For spelling questions: they always spell it out slowly

تدرّب

  1. In IELTS Listening, how many times do you hear each recording?

    • Once
    • Twice
    • Three times
    • As many times as you want

Each recording is played ONCE only — so preparation and focus are critical.

  2. What should you do BEFORE the audio starts?

    • Close your eyes and relax
    • Read the questions and underline keywords
    • Write your name
    • Check your answers

Reading questions first helps you know what to listen for.

🗣️ Speaking

Band 7+ techniques

IELTS Speaking is a 11–14 minute face-to-face interview. 3 parts: introduction, long turn (2 min speech), discussion.

Speaking Tips for Band 7+

  • Don't memorize answers — examiners can tell
  • Use a range of vocabulary — avoid repeating the same words
  • It's OK to pause briefly to think — say "That's an interesting question..."
  • Give reasons and examples for every answer
  • Speak at a natural pace — not too fast, not too slow

Useful Speaking Phrases

That's an interesting question...هذا سؤال مثير للاهتمام...
